Bands & Groups

I've played with many different artists and groups over the course of my career (see my Bio for more information). Below are some groups in which I currently play and for whom I create original music.

Carnaval Spirit is a parade group and percussion band who draw their main inspiration from the music and dance of Brazil. Director Kim Atkinson has created an ensemble of drummers who play together well and understand what they are doing in both the personal and social context. [MORE INFORMATION]

Samba Lumina adds multi-keyboard artistry, electric digeridoo, saxophone and flute to a core section of percussionists who play Carnaval Spirit arrangements and other rhythms. Our show includes special lighting, guests, costumes and surprises. Featured artist are Tony D'Anna, Peter Van Gorder and Sandy Feldhorn. [MORE INFORMATION]
Drummunity is my new project and is both a performing group and a ritual training. The performing group is flexible and many people join us with out a great deal of rehearsal. I draw on core members of Carnaval Spirit and add other musician friends according to the needs of the show. The most important element of Drummunity is inspiration, and the ability to change and flex with the moment. Drummunity is oriented to performing public rituals for world peace and upliftment.

ToKenKi (Pronounced Toe Ken Key) is a world fusion music trio of Tony D'Anna on Multi-Keyboards and percussion, Kendrick Freeman on Drumset and percussion, and Kim Atkinson on Conga and miscellaneous percussion. Their music ranges from full-on dance to introspective and is suited for all manner of movement, as all the members have extensive experience in dance accompaniment / composition in a variety of styles including Afro, Avant Garde, Modern, Jazz, Ballet, Caribbean and Fusion. Small Village Ensemble is a percussion trio with extensive live and studio experience. Members Arthur Hull, Michael Pluznic and Kim Atkinson have known each other for many years and build on their solid relationships to create both innovative and traditional drum ensemble music. [MORE INFORMATION]

Other groups I perform with include:

Caribbean Connection - a trio featuring Ron Daniels of Babados West Indies on guitar, steel pans and vocal. Our repertoir includes the best of Soca, Reggae and Calypso.

Jose Neto I play multi percussion with master Brazilian guitarist Jose Neto in trio and duo settings for club dates, parties and other events.
