| Samba Lumina is a six-piece rhythm
fusion band that plays the compositions of local drum artist Kim Atkinson.
Our sound is FunkaNova, Acid Samba, and World Jazz with keyboards,
saxophone, flute and marimba. Our foundation is a big percussion groove
with 3 or more richly tuned bass drums, snare drum, African bells, stick
drums, shakers, and congas. We create a vibrant weave of good feelings,
drawing on inspiring grooves from West Africa, Brazil and Cuba.
Samba Lumina is composed of core members of Carnaval Spirit who have performed together for many years. We have played at festivals and events around the North Bay including Calistoga Educational Association FundRaisers, Volunteer Fireman's Association benefits and private parties. Our biggest event of the year is our annual Mardi Gras party, held for nine years at the Powerhouse Brewery and one year at the Community Center in Sebastopol.
We also work with the Flor da Lua dancers and can prepare a dance show for you for an extra fee. Audience participation (movement or drumming) is also possible. Hire us for your next party!
