"Innovative World Music" succinctly describes the music of ToKenKi: a group of three exceptional musicians who weave an engaging tapestry of rhythm, timber and song.

Innovative World Music featuring over 30 exotic percussion instruments with multi-keyboards and drum set. Moods range from full-on dance to introspective with unusual instruments and rhythms.

"Primal Landscape" (tape)
"Multi-keyboards in a lush landscape of exotic percussion." Our first album, half percussion and half full band. Features tunes with b,erimbau , waterphones, African bells, dholak, djembes, temple blocks and other unusual sounds. Featured on "Echoes" a nationally syndicated radio show.

Tony D'Anna (TO)
Over 40 years of musical evolution from Bebop to Avant Garde Jazz. In addition to keyboard synthesizers and piano, Tony also plays hammered dulcimer, flutes, shakers, bells, dholak, dumbec, djembe, musical saw, waterphone, and anything else that can make a musical sound. Tony's timbral sensitivity, rhythmic creativity, and compositional mastery make him an artist in the highest sense of the word. Formerly staff composer for the Theater Arts Department at Sonoma State University.

Kendrick Freeman (KEN)
Over 25 years of rock, R & B, and jazz trap drums as well as Latin and African percussion. Kendrick brings to this group the insight and understanding of multicultural styles, coupled with contemporary feel and precision. From outside to in the pocket, Kendrick's musical sophistication and heart bring ToKenKi's music to another level of listening delight. Formerly musical director of "Group Petit La Croix," San Francisco's premier Haitian dance troupe.

Kim Atkinson (KI)
Over 20 years of African, Brazilian, and Caribbean percussion, having performed with master musicians and dancers from Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, the Congo, Brazil, Trinidad, Cuba and the U.S. Kim has been featured on several albums with artists including Steve Kindler, Teja Bell, Constance Demby, Jim Chappell and Shawkie Roth. A respected teacher who plays over 30 percussion instruments, including dunno, berimbau and timbales. Whether it's a driving tribal drum groove or a splash of his very own "aluminangle," Kim's musical contributions keep the listener intrigued and refreshed with a dazzling array of sonic sensations. Formerly percussion director of San Francisco's award winning Brazilian dance troupe "Escola Nova de Samba."
